Those seeking results worship the gods who grant results. Quick success comes from action in the human world.

A modern analogy
Someone prays to a patron saint before a big interview, a performance, a deal. They want specific, quick results. V12 doesn't condemn this — it describes it accurately. The human world IS the world of rapid action-result cycles. But V11 has already pointed beyond this: there is a deeper approach than result-seeking.

V12 contextualizes the previous verse by describing the most common human spiritual mode: result-oriented worship (kāṅkṣantaḥ siddhim yajante devatāḥ). This is not condemned — in fact, the Gita consistently acknowledges that the gods do deliver results and that human action in the world does produce quick fruit. Shankaracharya's comment: the verse establishes the hierarchy of approaches. Those who approach the divine for quick results (V12) receive those results. Those who approach for liberation (V11, V9) receive liberation. Both receive what they seek — this is V11's tāṃs tathaiva bhajāmi in action.

The unattached-minded, self-conquered, desire-free one attains supreme naiskarmya-siddhi through sannyāsa.
