दूरेण ह्यवरं कर्म बुद्धियोगाद्धनञ्जय । बुद्धौ शरणमन्विच्छ कृपणाः फलहेतवः ॥
dūreṇa hy avaram karma buddhi-yogād dhanaṃjaya | buddhau śaraṇam anviccha kṛpaṇāḥ phala-hetavaḥ ||
"Acting for reward is the lowest form of action. Seek the wisdom that transcends reward-seeking."

O Dhananjaya, action performed with desire for fruits is far inferior to action performed with discrimination. Seek refuge in discrimination. Those who act for fruits are pitiable indeed.
O Dhananjaya, action is far inferior to the yoga of wisdom; seek thou refuge in wisdom; pitiable are they who are fruit-seekers.
Action is far inferior to the Yoga of discernment, O Dhananjaya. Take refuge in pure intellect; pitiable are those who seek the fruits of their deeds.
Far off is happiness for those who aim At Yog of wisdom — yea, and worse than far — Who work for gain; it is their business To seek the fruits of action. Pitiable!
